Queer Podcast Community

Unbeknownst to all of us, purecastmedia.com has gone out of business. They had "bandwidth overages" that drained their bank account. This leaves me and many of my podcasting brothers and sisters without a home to store our mp3 files.

UPDATE: Thanks to Madge's successful lobbying, Adam Curry and Podshow have graciously offered to pick up ALL Purecast refugees! If you are a Purecast refugee, please contact Madge (include email, website url, and contact info) via email (bloatedlesbian@gmail.com).

Big-ass thanks to Madge, Adam and the Podshow peeps for helping our community stay intact!

Just a little extra advice:

If the Podshow or genetichosting.com servers turn out not to be the best solution for you, please find a home where you plan to stay for a while. Moving from server to server and changing your RSS feed constantly will not help to standardize (or grow) your listener base.

Cheers, kids. And never let the failure of one company stop you from expressing your voice to all that will listen.

Here's a website I found which may help some find a new host. Even though I wasn't affected by the Purecast media meltdown, i am doing some research myself. Here's a website I found:

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, but moving to Podshow would be a permanent, long-term solution. There's be no need to move again (unless you choose to, of your own accord). As for RSS, if you're using Feedburner, your feed should never be interrupted, regardless of which host you choose.

What are the fees involved in the podshow hosting? I haven't seen that posted yet.

Podshow has not asked Purecast refugees for any fees. Hence the amazing nature of this help. If you or any Purecast refugee is interested, please feel free to contact Madge directly.

Alright, so my previous post was a little bitchy. It wasn't my intention. Sorry about that, it's been a crazy week of podcast frustration.

So here's the deal: For those of you who want a paid subscription as an alternative to the very generous offer from Podshow. You have a very reasonable offer from genetichosting.net.

This is amazing and really beautiful!!

Know, I wasn't affected by the demize of purecastmedia.com, but hearing about it and how it affected other queercasters made me sad.

While watching Wanda's post grow (lol) well that didn't sound right! Seriously, what I meant is... seeing all U queerscasters working together to help those who need a new home/host to post their podcasts. What a BEAUTIFUL thing!

Thanks Madge, Adam and the Podshow and of course U Miss Sexy Wanda of Wisdom!!

Check out my post about a new service available for new podcasters as well as former Purecastmedia subscribers.

The service through genetichosting.net is $15 per month, with unlmited bandwidth (for now). He's opened this up for those of knocked off the net, and seems to have a real grasp on podcasting.

Don't let purecast's poor business model knock you off the net! Get back out there!

I would highly recommend that all podcasters have a account at http://www.ourmedia.org just in case all goes wacko with your people you host with.

It is slow BUT it is FREE and you have to have a back up.

I left PureCastMedia after less than two weeks when I started podcasting as I could tell after that short time that they were a crap hosting company.

Man am I glad I did that now!

In fact I am glad they are dead so maybe the old link to my site I used to have with them may eventually die on iTunes!

Also always back up files and use Blogger or your own rss and Feedburner so your listeners will not have to find you all over again.

I am just bidding my time with the host I am with now till Adam Curry gets his stuff together with a hosting company.

Well my sympathy to those who are in limbo and just rebuild and go on people and look forward to the future!

you could also try www.podomatic.com. The account space is limited but it could be used as a stop over until you get something better.

www.switchpod.com - you can store up to 100mbs free. A little rough around the edges - but may tide you over while you find another service.

www.blogmatrix.com - not a free service, about $5.00 per month for 100mbs - but it's a slicker site. And they are still in business.

I can provide some temporary space on my server as well on a limited basis.

I can also provide some tips on switching your loyal listeners over to a new RSS Feed - its a tough sell but its not impossible

Either way - just e-mail me at jared@20somethingmarketing.com

I switched over from Purecast about 2 1/2 months ago so I empathize with what's going on - I just didn't know they would leave everyone out in the cold like this - bad business form if you ask me.

Best,
Jared
