Queer Podcast Community

Hello my fellow podcasters. As you know, I used to work for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force as their IT Director for 6 years. Each year the Task Force hosts an annual conference which hosts over 2500 queer activists and queer friendly activists and delegates from across the country.

I was thinking that it might be a great idea to do a workshop or host a forum on Queer Podcasting. It can be a workshop on how to setup a podcast, a QA session with representative from the queer podcast community sitting on a panel or what not. I'm sure it would be attended well.

There are lots of logistics and such to getting to the conference. Having been intimate with the conference for 6 years, its a wonderful opportunity to mix and mingle with the who's who in the LGBT movement and queers like us who are trying to make a difference.

Would anyone possibly be interested in doing this? However the deadline is coming up fast (like Monday). We'd have to submit an application to host a workshop. For more information on the Creating Change Conference, visit http://www.creatingchange.org. The conference is Nov. 9 to 13, with the workshops being held on the 11th and 12th.

Thanks for listening and as ALWAYS...thanks for stepping up to the mic.

first post ^^

sounds like fun, even though the 'cast i work on isn't soley about gay issues, i'm certainly interested in meeting other 'casters and talking about what works for us and what doesn't... and this isn't far up the road from where i'm at...

one "problem" you might run into though is that this is the same weekend as the portable media expo, that big podcast conference that's being promoted on podcastalley and podcastawards and stuff. :(

I saw that. I figured that if you had to goto both, we would request the workshop to be on either Friday or Saturday, giving time to fly down to the Podcast Expo.

I'd feel alot more secure about going to both if I didn't get so much the sense that the podcasting expo wasn't so commercialized. It was my initial impression that many attending/presenting/exhibiting were large media outlets. I couldn't find a workshop listing for the expo, I would be interested to see if the workshops are geared both towards large media podcasters and us.

you make a very good point about the commercialization of the podcast expo. i guess we'll have a better idea of what to expect a little closer to the date. it still is so far off. i know me personally... i'll better be able to make a decision what i want to do when i really have an understanding what my options are :P heh... i'm also curious as to the response for the expo from the podcasting community as a whole.

nevertheless, don't let this lil' conflict get in the way of your idea. it's a good one, and you've got lots of support already!

I would also love to be part of it. Though I am new to podcasting, I have been learning so much in such a short time I have already been able to share what I learned with my blogging community. I'm an old time gay blogger (5+ years and almost 2 million hits) and many of my peers are jumping on the podcast wagon. We really see this as a new voice for the queer community.

I think written blogs should be part of the discussion. I think its a unique way of documenting the history of queers... The conference is right in your backdoor in Oakland! :)
