Queer Podcast Community

Ladies and ladies,

Today as I was chatting with Rob from Podcast411.com, he told me that you can actually use this protocol itpc:// followed by your actual RSS feed to utilize iTunes as your aggregator without having to go through iTunes Podcast directory. It would be ideal for those who do not want to use iTunes directory, or while waiting for your feed to get published on iTunes.

i.e:
Ongline iTunes 1-click Subscription

This is the html code for the above link:

<a href="itpc://subscribe.onglinepodcast.com" target="link">Ongline iTunes 1-click Subscription</a>

The down side is. Since the subscription utilizes your actual RSS feed, and not iTunes feed. iTunes will not have the record of how popular your show is. For those who are anticipating a "Feature" or "Top 25/50" on iTunes, then you would want to do it the old fashion way, and use the "phobos" url from iTunes.

I have also created an easy-to-remember feed name, rather than the feedburner or other ?/rss2*$@ long ass link (kidding...but you know what I mean).
I created a subdomain http://subscribe.onglinepodcast.com, then forward that subdomain to my actual feed, which is http://johnong.com/ongline/index.xml. So far it's working for me in various aggregators. But I'm not sure if this is a valid or good way of doing it. Let me know what problem I might encounter for doing so.

I am currently using this idea because once I started updating my seond episode, it flaked out on the iTunes music directory. My feed and location are valid. I am a busy man and I don't have time to fuck around with the ridiculously picky requirements of iTunes tags when my feed is valid. I have always had this motto:

If THEY don't want me or my ART, then it is THEIR loss.

(somewhat ironic considering the theme of my show but, whatever)

As long as I can get the show out to my contacts in the worldwide gay community - I don't care about itunes fucking music store.

But it is nice that the iTunes program can be used to subscribe with the feeds I list on my blogs.

BTW. james ong, I discussed your show on my new one. I think you and the Mischievious bOyz are audio-bly HOT ! (and I'm learning alot)

One, for those who are for whatever reason not appearing in iTunes Podcast directory, and while waiting for their shows to get listed.

The other reason is convenience for listeners. They don't have to go through iTunes Music Store listing. All they have to do is download iTunes, and with one click from your website with itpc://followed.by/yourRSS to get subscribed.

I have a lot of people clicking on the phobos link and instead of following by clicking the "Subscribe" button, they just start to listen to the list of shows appeared, all that without subscription.

I mean I know iTunes is kinda fuc-ed up by why would ya want to not use all outlets to get your podcast out?
I mean hell Madge used the Chrsitian top 100..shit why not?
I mean use all ya can to get your shit out..I mean damn!

I do think the feed thing to redirect is a good idea.
