Queer Podcast Community

Okay ladies.. this is a real rough (as in no lube rough) draft of the press release. Basically a combination of Berbacia's thoughts as well as Wanda's thoughts put into coherent form. It will obviously need editing but we can work on it from here...

------------

New GLBT Community Takes The Reins in Podcasting Phenomenon

CHICAGO, June 10 -- On a hot summer night in New York City in 1969 a group of angry gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons fought back for the first time against a society which had failed to give them a voice. Fast-forward to the present day -- a group of podcasters continues to fight for a voice much in the way those pioneering members of the GLBT community did some thirty-six years ago.

With the advent and rise of podcasting, it has given a voice to the voiceless. Also, it has given an opportunity for groups that have otherwise been shut out of traditional media until recently a chance at a broader audience than was ever thought possible.

Enter QPodder.org. Offering a centralized location for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender multimedia content, the site acts as a virtual clearinghouse for both those looking for content, and those looking to try their hand at podcasting.

(Quote here from Madge or another representative of QPodder -- Basically saying QP gives strength in numbers, pools resources and talent, collaborative artist space - this was from Wanda's idea list)

The site will offer functionality to its users including a blog function, forums, and chat features. Through this, listeners will be able to interact with one another as well as the podcast creators. Authors will be able to use these features to promote their content, as well as use the pooled resources of the community to increase the quality of their broadcasts as well as assist other podcasters in using the medium to it's fullest potential.

(Quote again. This time we should make it clear that QPodder just isn't for the GLBT community alone, and that we welcome listeners ?and authors? Of any persuasion interested in queer art - again, wanda's idea ☺)

The initial launch of QPodder has already been a success. Along with the pioneering members that included such popular podcasts as Yeast Radio, Lucky Bitch Radio, Feast of Fools, and Fox in the City, QPodder now counts over 30 podcasts with new content being added each day.

More features are planned in the near future, including a aggregated feed where users of the site will only have to subscribe to one feed in order to receive content from all member podcasters.

(Summation quote -- whatever the hell we want it to be)

Draft 3 anyone?

Does anyone want to volunteer to assimilate the comments and write draft 3? I just need something to send out to Lady Bunny. We can always fine tune it some more later.

As a member of the press...

This week, podcasting really exploded as a true internet phenomenon and will help our glbt movement exponentially. I agree with comments posted earlier that suggest a history of podcasting, but also give us something on how podcasting (and in specific, how qpodder) will change the world-- how will this hot opportunity to reach audiences and this great website affect people?

History Please!

I still think if you tie in the "HISTORICAL" nature of this happening, it will give the reporter a quick identifier. It might give the technically challenged, like myself, something to go on, who might otherwise say "Podwho?"

as in...

... a history of podcasting? explain.

Like write a paragraph with what you'd want.. I think that's the best way to do this.. then we could edit each others ideas into one super PR :P

Ed Baby...

Check out my 1 and only blog, "The First", then when "identifying qpodder" in your release you hype the historical nature of it..ie: it has never been done before, so it is history in the making, another first for the queer community...Marketing-wise, you are creating an event out of some crazy queens and lesbians supporting eachother. The focus of your release is that you are announcing an "Event." Details of the event are your quotes, site features, commonalitys, community, etc. Which in the release is coming along veeeeerrrrry nicely. I do believe that a sense of urgency could be included by hyping more.
Love you, Ed

just call me a stupid whore.

Wait, don't :)

Madge's cumments...

[17:11] i like it, but i would like to see a very obvioius mention of community...
[17:12] like we are the virtual gay/lesbian community center
[17:12] we stand for community of podcasters primarily
[17:12] but it's just not about podcasting?
[17:12] some sites like podcast alley are for listeners
[17:12] something like that?
[17:12] podcastERS more than podcastING
[17:13] we offer a way for gay pdocasters to be heard ...
[17:13] we are together- help each other out-
[17:13] a coalition- we have media kits available
[17:13] stuff like that
[17:13] i like to present us as a site for the community- not another ass fucking site
[17:14] not a ratings site for childish popularity cunt tests
[17:14] haha yeah i got ya
[17:14] in the quotes too we could bring that across
[17:14] because that's where reporters will pull stuff from when they write it
[17:14] but a site for podcasters to promote their wares and a place for glbt fans to sample different shows without having a rating system crammed down their throats or some other crap
[17:15] just brainstorming
[17:15] yeah.... i like the ideas
[17:15] i'm going to post this conversation as a reply to your post so others can comment.
